Press Release – Wrap Up

The POLFISH International Fair of Seafood Processing and Products was held in Gdańsk for the eleventh time, May 31 – June 2. The fair gathered more than 100 exhibitors from 14 countries: Poland, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, the UK and the USA. POLFISH was held under the honorary auspices of Poland’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and was opened by Minister Kazimierz Plocke, Secretary of State.


The fair is held in partnership with: the Sea Fisheries Institute in Gdynia (MIR), the Inland Fisheries Institute (IRŚ), the Polish Associations of Fish Processors (PSPR), the Polish Fisheries Association (PTR), the Association of Fish Importers (SIR), the Polish Trout Breeders Association (SPRŁ), the Seafood Market Development Association (SRRR), the Fish Promotion Society (TPR) and the Sea Fisheries Union – Producer Organisation (ZRM-OP).

This year’s POLFISH was visited by more than 4,000 professional trade visitors from 24 countries (England, Belarus, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine and the USA).

The Fair was accompanied by conferences and seminars, including: the 15th Conference of Seafood Industry Technologists on The Current Legal and Market Requirements for the Fisheries Industry, organised in partnership with the MIR Sea Fisheries Institute in Gdynia, the 2nd Conference on Raw Materials – Innovation – the Market organised by Magazyn Przemysłu Rybnego magazine and a Conference on Fisheries Local Action Groups – an Opportunity or only a Hope? organised by the 7 RYB Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG), Morenka FLAG, Barycz Valley Partnership, Obra-Warta FLAG and Nadnotecka FLAG.

Many new solutions were presented by the exhibitors in various categories, including:
• a universal piece cutter for sea and freshwater fish – from MIR Sea Fisheries Institute in Gdynia
• a smoking and cooking chamber: flameless, energy-saving and environmentally-friendly (with a closed-cycle smoke system to reduce emissions by 90%) – from Lambda H-L
• a cryogenic contact freezer to handle delicate, sticky and hard-to-handle products in an efficient and hygienic way – Linde Gaz Polska Sp. z o.o.
• SDK microsieve – a self-cleaning mechanical filter to enable the removal of any impurities from liquids – from SDK Sp. z o.o.
• ICE PRO – ice bagger, HORIZON, MAESTRO – icemakers for Chewblet and flake ice, ITS, SG, DEV – cutting-edge containers for ice storage and gravity dispensing – from Follett Europe Polska Sp. z o. o.
• FLOWFRESH – flooring systems with antimicrobial properties, which contain the antibacterial additive Polygiene® to inhibit the growth of bacteria, mould and fungi on the floor – from Flowcrete Polygiene Sp. z o.o.
• carp fillets in MAP packaging – from The “Pan Karp - Mister Carp" Fish Promotion Society
• Piccantos – sauces and dips based on home recipes, Europe’s Seasides – traditional and colourful products of four distinctive European coastal regions – from NESSEpol
• Ready To Cook products: stuffed plaice with spinach and feta cheese, stuffed plaice with prawns and broccoli in white sauce, Meunière plaice fillets, cod loins, salmon fillet with herbs Provencal – from Royal Greenland Seafood Sp. z o.o.

The best products and technologies presented at POLFISH received the Mercurius Gedanensis Award. Polfish 2011 Grand Prix went to the MIR Sea Fisheries Institute in Gdynia for their universal piece cutter for the carp family fish. Medals in the Seafood Product category went to: GOLMAR Mariusz Golec of Sopot for their smoked Winter Sprats in oil and to Royal Greenland Seafood Sp. z o.o. of Koszalin for their Stuffed Plaice with prawns and broccoli in white sauce.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development presented his award for the best POLFISH product to SONA Sp. z o.o. of Koziegłówki for their Smoked Mackerel Fillets with pepper.

The MIR Sea Fisheries Institute presented its Golden Herring award to the BARTEK Fish Processing Plant of Świdwin in recognition for their achievements in pelagic fish processing.
